Jennifer Berger
Executive Director
Jennifer first got riled up about the dysfunctional relationship between
women and the media while earning her B. A. in Communication Studies at
the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Viewing Jean Kilbourne's films provided
the "a-ha" moment. Everything came together: the way all her friends
disliked their bodies, how many Victoria's Secret catalogs we all get,
and the fact that we never feel "good enough."
Since her graduation in 1998, Jennifer has been striving to free women
and girls from the obsession with their bodies, and she was a
contributor to the book Body Outlaws:
Rewriting the Rules of Beauty and Body Image (edited by Ophira Edut). That year, she found
her calling when she joined About-Face.
Today, as About-Face's Executive Director, Jennifer relies on her
passion for women's rights, her stellar managerial skills, and her
trusty TiVo to lead the About-Face revolution. She also gets to slap
posters up whenever she feels like it and eat lots of chocolate while
holding meetings.
